Ceramics on Show
It was a privilege indeed to be asked to photograph ceramics by the well known artist Mark Dally.
We discussed, at some length, exactly what look and feel Mark wanted me to create. The main brief was to capture the endearing qualities of Marks masterpieces, which have evolved over the past 30 years!
It was decided to keep the gloss aspect of the surfaces by not using a circular polariser. We still needed to pay careful attention to where the reflections occurred and what might be caught in those reflections. The studio environment and lighting was set up to reflect these aspirations.
Finally a technique called Focus Stacking was used to make sure the ceramics were sharp from the front to the very back of each piece. To insure super smooth images ISO64 was used throughout, under a powerful lightbox providing plenty of light onto all surfaces and into all crevices.
